React 20 is Coming — Here’s What to Expect
While it hasn’t been officially announced, the React Core Team is working on a React 20 release candidate, developers have much to look forward to in the upcoming major release. React 20 brings impactful updates aimed at boosting performance, expanding the framework’s flexibility, and making the developer experience even smoother. Here’s an early look at some key features you can expect in React 20 to help you prepare.
1. Streamlined Server Components
One of the most exciting updates is the enhancement of Server Components, building upon initial experiments in React 19. In React 20, Server Components offer even more control over server-side rendering and component caching, helping to drastically reduce the JavaScript footprint sent to the client. This means faster initial loads, improved SEO, and simplified data-fetching logic that doesn’t rely heavily on client-side APIs.
- How It Works: React 20 introduces the
'use server'
directive as a core part of the framework, allowing developers to directly tag specific components for server-side rendering. Server-rendered components manage server-state independently, further boosting rendering efficiency.
